About us

PWAM

Established in 2019, the Progress Welfare Association of Malindi (PWAM) is a community-driven, non-profit organization dedicated to building a cleaner, safer, and more resilient Malindi. Founded by local residents, PWAM serves as a collaborative platform bringing together communities, government institutions, and the private sector to address key environmental, social, and urban development challenges. Our work focuses on sustainable waste management and circular economy solutions, public health and sanitation advocacy, climate-resilient urban planning, community livelihoods, public safety, and good governance. Through hands-on action such as monthly beach and town clean-ups, policy engagement, and innovative community programs, PWAM promotes environmental stewardship while empowering local communities.

Guided by principles of transparency, inclusivity, and impact, PWAM is governed by a dedicated board of professionals and community leaders committed to evidence-based advocacy and participatory development.

8 tonnes of waste cleared from Malindi’s streets and beaches, significantly improving the city’s environmental health.

Vision

Our vision is rooted in creating a Malindi that boasts modern infrastructure, safe walkways, fun recreational facilities, and a circular refuse management system that sets the standard for environmental sustainability. We envision a community where businesses, nature, and people work synergistically for a prosperous and sustainable future.

Mission

To promote environmental integrity, empower communities, and influence urban policy through participatory action, innovation, and evidence-based advocacy.

PWAM is actively involved in several key initiatives:

01. Environmental Stewardship

Through our Green & Blue Programme, we are leading efforts to maintain a clean and eco-friendly Malindi. Our monthly clean-up events and collaborations with the government on waste management are just a few ways we contribute to a healthier environment.

02. Civic Engagement

We believe that a thriving community is one where residents are actively engaged with their government and other stakeholders. PWAM encourages responsible citizenship by promoting transparency, accountability, and collaboration in public resource management.

03. Tourism Promotion

Recognizing Malindi’s potential as a premier tourist destination, PWAM is dedicated to innovative marketing efforts that highlight the city’s natural beauty, rich culture, and hospitable people. Our aim is to boost tourism and, in turn, the local economy.
